JUMEIRAH AL QASR DUBAI, UAE
Evocative of traditional Arabia, Jumeirah Al Qasr is the jewel in the crown of Madinat Jumeirah and sits within the 40 hectares of landscaped gardens, truly embodying the fantasies of 1001 Arabian nights. Living up to its meaning “The Palace” whichever way one looks, the hotel is designed to dazzle. The captivating lobby is an immediate immersion into the world of the Arabian Peninsula. Its exuberant flower arrangements are created daily by the team of in-house florists with blooms flown in from Africa, Thailand and The Netherlands. The 294 rooms and suites, all with terraces and balconies, were refurbished in 2018 to offer a rich, contemporary Arabic experience. Navy, orange and blue tone patterns captivate the eye and make the space a true homage to opulent and modern Arabic design.
The majestic arrival experience is remarkable. South African Danie de Jager was the sculptor who created the 18 full-sized golden horses, lined next to the impressive date Palm trees. They lead onto what has become known as one of Dubai’s most breath- taking hotel entrances. De Jager based the designs on the anatomy of the Arabian racehorses from the royal stables, in a showmanship of true storytelling.
The lobby is then presided by a five-ton crystal chandelier that reflects both the sunrise and sunset light, with the floors and walls made of stunning Azul Bahia granite from Brazil.
The hotel’s lush garden paths are worth noting too, providing an idyllic setting for a stroll. Guests looking for a special mode of transport can ride the traditional wooden abras which glide along the resort’s 3.7km of waterways.
Jumeirah Al Qasr’s beach has its own games area, where kids can challenge each other with a life-size game of snakes and ladders, connect four or chess, keeping them occupied alongside the resort’s immaculate pools.
Jumeirah Al Qasr has refurbished its full inventory of rooms and suites, maintaining its traditional Arabic style, but now with a contemporary flair. All 294 rooms and suites were redesigned by Khuan Chew of KCA International Interior Design and Kristina Zanic Consultants.
Guests looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, can cruise through the waterways of Madinat Jumeirah and try a wonderful experience with theArabian-inspired Abra Afternoon Tea. Cast off from 4pm – 6pm and sample the high-tea which puts an Arabic spin on classic sweetand savory favorites, all while voyaging through the beautiful waters of the resort. Served straight on the abra itself, guests can enjoy Arabic and Mediterranean finger foods including hummus sandwiches, labneh rolls, and muhammara conesand chicken and tuna sandwiches. For dessert, guests can enjoy homemade pastries and Middle Eastern inspired delicacies such as strawberry rose and mango saffron macarons, pistachio vanilla cupcakes and Kunafa fruit tarts.
Madinat Jumeirah is also home to one of the city’s most innovative and exclusive outdoor venues, Fort Island. The new event space, set over 1,750sqm, was completed in October 2015. A popular venue for music concerts, weddings, festivals and much more, this versatile space can accommodate up to 1,400 guests. Connected to the resort by four bridges, guests can access the venue by foot or abra boats. Event planners can use the virtual online tool to book venues at Madinat Jumeirah.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to jump across Madinat Jumeirah’s wind towers,
or wakeboard through its winding waterways? Fun fact – Freerunner and parkour athlete Kie Willis once jumped, bounced, and rolled his way around the resort, leaping up walls and between wind towers as part of his playcation in Dubai. XDubai athlete JB O’Neill also rediscovered parts of the Madinat Jumeirah in a spectacular way on his very own Wakecation.
