Lift-off for New OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch

The OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch has captivated enthusiasts and collectors alike since its inception. The newest edition of this iconic timepiece features a striking lacquered white dial, drawing inspiration from space exploration and the collection’s famous heritage.

“The decision to use white is also a nod to the brand’s history.”

Moonwatch fans have eagerly anticipated the official unveiling of this model since it was first seen on the wrist of OMEGA brand ambassador, Daniel Craig, at the Planet OMEGA Exhibition in New York. The original Speedmaster was designed with black hands and indexes on a white dial for legibility, but this new edition flips the color scheme. With a white dial and black detailing, complemented by a glossy lacquered finish, it offers a fresh take on the classic design.

The addition of a vibrant red Speedmaster name adds a pop of color and pays homage to the iconic spacesuits worn by astronauts during extravehicular activities (EVAs). This is a fitting connection as the Speedmaster Moonwatch has been officially worn by NASA astronauts since 1965 and is known as the first watch worn on the Moon. Moreover, red lines have also featured on the suits since Apollo 13 in 1970 to signify the commander’s rank.

The decision to use white is also a nod to the brand’s history. In 1969, OMEGA created the ALASKA I prototype as part of their secret NASA project to design the perfect space watch. After months of experiments, OMEGA chose a white dial because it provides an effective thermal reflection coefficient.

The red Speedmaster name on the new model is also a nod to the protective red case that surrounded the original ALASKA I watch.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the new Moonwatch boasts impeccable craftsmanship and thoughtful design details. Presented in a 42 mm stainless steel case, it features a vintage-inspired stainless steel bracelet with polished and brushed detailing. Two more versions are also available, including one on a black micro perforated leather strap with red and white stitching, and another on an antibacterial rubber strap with a moon surface pattern on the underside.

For Moonwatch fans, the black anodized aluminum bezel of each timepiece has been given a famous “Dot over Ninety” on the tachymeter scale, while inside, the watch is driven by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861 – the most upto-date version of the legendary Caliber 321.

With its blend of innovation, heritage, and timeless style, the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch continues to capture the imagination of watch and space enthusiasts alike.
