Marco Valle, CEO of luxury yacht brand Benetti, shares insights into innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship in yacht building, highlighting the brand’s use of AI, eco-friendly initiatives, and personalized customer experiences.

“The Monaco Yacht Show is recognized globally as a hub for mega yachts.”

How is Benetti utilizing AI to revolutionize the yacht-building process, and how does this technology enhance the customer experience?

Available technologies like 3D visualization are helping owners see what their boats will look like, even if it’s not fully projected yet. These tools allow us to work more efficiently with custom projects, moving from traditional 2D drawings to detailed visualizations, reducing errors, and speeding up the construction process. In yacht building, because most projects are highly customized, we see limited use of AI right now. However, in areas where engineering is more repetitive, like with our sister company Azimut, AI can be more easily applied.

What initiatives is Benetti undertaking to minimize its environmental footprint, and how does the company balance sustainability with luxury?

Marco Valle: One does not exclude the other—you can balance both sustainability and luxury. We’re using eco-friendly, recyclable materials without affecting design quality. This has become easier over time, though costs are still higher for recycled materials. For repetitive builds, like those in Azimut, we’re even recycling unused fiberglass, turning it into powder to be repurposed for things like cement.

What are the key highlights of Benetti’s participation at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show?

We’re showcasing three mega yachts that truly represent Benetti’s DNA, including a 67-meter yacht with a classic design and a 50-meter yacht that balances luxury with full customization. These yachts demonstrate that clients aren’t just purchasing a vessel for vacations—they’re seeking an extension of their lifestyle, something unique that reflects their personal vision.

How does Benetti view the Monaco Yacht Show’s contribution to the yacht industry and its trends?

The Monaco Yacht Show is recognized globally as a hub for mega yachts. While other shows like Cannes and Dubai cater to a wider range of yacht sizes, Monaco is known for showcasing yachts in the 60-70 meter range and up, which is a perfect fit for Benetti.

What challenges and opportunities does Benetti face in today’s global market?

We see two different speeds in the market. Mega yachts continue to experience high demand, while entry-level boats are more affected by interest rates and inflation. In regions like the Middle East, demand remains strong despite geopolitical challenges. Our backlog of yachts sold and under construction is growing significantly.

How does Benetti maintain its reputation for quality and craftsmanship?

The amount of customization in mega yachts means that no two vessels are the same. We push clients to make their yachts truly unique, ensuring that each project has a dedicated team from day one. This level of personalization is essential for maintaining the high standards we’re known for.

Can you discuss the importance of personalization in the yacht-building process?

Personalization is a must in the mega yacht segment. While some components like the engine room might be standardized, everything else is fully customized. Clients invest heavily, and we encourage them to make their yachts a true reflection of their tastes. Each project is managed by a dedicated team, and we work closely with architects, surveyors, captains, and client representatives to ensure the final product matches the client’s vision.

What social responsibility initiatives does Benetti undertake in the communities where it operates?

We are deeply involved in supporting the communities where we operate. In Italy, for example, we invest in school programs and provide transportation benefits to help employees manage inflation. We also support local sports and community activities. It’s important for us to give back to the areas we’re part of.

What are your long-term vision and goals for Benetti?

Benetti has been a leader for many years, and with leadership comes responsibility. We must set trends, uphold ethics, and maintain professionalism. Our focus on innovation, whether in technology or design, helps us stay ahead. But ultimately, the company is about people. Supporting younger employees and giving them opportunities to grow is critical to our future success.
