MANAMA, BAHRAIN — Marking a significant addition to the Kingdom’s retail landscape, international fashion retailer Primark has officially launched its debut flagship in Bahrain at City Centre Manama, executed in strategic partnership with regional franchise leader Alshaya Group.
Spanning over 43,000 square feet across two levels, the store represents Primark’s 20th global market entry and its fifth location in the GCC—following successful rollouts in Kuwait and the UAE. The high-profile opening drew executive leadership and dignitaries, including H.E. Micheál Smith, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to the Kingdom of Bahrain, alongside John Hadden, CEO of Alshaya Group, and Mr. Khalifa Bin Braik, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management.
Strategic Regional Growth
The expansion reflects a broader movement within the GCC commercial retail sector as global high-street powerhouses scale physical footprints to meet regional market demand.
“It’s fantastic to see Primark open its doors in Bahrain and reach the milestone of our 20th international market,” noted Eoin Tonge, CEO of Primark. “Our partnership with Alshaya Group continues to grow from strength to strength as we expand across the Middle East.”
For Alshaya Group, the unveiling underscores an aggressive expansion model tailored for regional lifestyle destinations. John Hadden, CEO at Alshaya Group, remarked: “As we approach a year since our first regional opening, we are thrilled to bring the brand to Bahrain as part of our strategic roll-out alongside our partners at Majid Al Futtaim.”
GCC Roadmap
The opening coincides with a multi-market rollout across the Gulf. Following the Manama launch, Primark’s expansion will continue with its flagship Qatar debut at Doha Festival City in late October 2026, followed by additional openings scheduled for Saudi Arabia and Kuwait through 2027.
