Nearly three decades after its initial 1997 debut, FENDI's original "It-Bag" was reframed not just as a seasonal fashion accessory, but as a historic design object.

During Milano Design Week, the lines between fine art, interior design, and high fashion blur completely. FENDI seized this moment to present a striking installation at its Palazzo FENDI Milano boutique: the unveiling of the Baguette 26424 Re-Edition.

       The number 26424 holds a special significance for fashion historians-it represents the original archival factory code assigned to the Baguette when Silvia Venturini Fendi first conceived its iconic under-the-arm silhouette.

       For this project, FENDI’s creative direction introduced structural updates to merge heritage with modern wearability. The Baguette 26424 Re-Edition features a softer, more relaxed construction that molds seamlessly against the body and elongated shoulder straps designed to enhance comfort and functional fluid movement.

       The collection spans twenty distinct, archival- minded designs, transforming each bag into a tactile canvas. Artisans elevated the signature silhouette using intricate, time-honored embroidery techniques, such as traditional Aari and Zardozi work. Embellished with a vibrant mix of heavy sequins, beads, and mirror fragments, individual pieces required upwards of 70 hours of manual craftsmanship and tens of thousands of hand-applied beads to complete.

       To anchor the release firmly within Milano Design Week, six exclusive iterations were dedicated entirely to the city of Milan, while the remaining 14 styles began a highly anticipated global tour across major fashion hubs, including Shanghai and New York. The presentation space at Palazzo FENDI mirrored the philosophy of a high-end art exhibition. Rather than resting on traditional retail shelving, each Baguette 26424 arrived enclosed within custom-designed, industrial wooden crates reminiscent of fine art transport cases. Complete with raw stencil lettering, special Re-Edition metal tags, and bound securely with FENDI’s signature yellow canvas utility belts, the packaging treated the bags like precious heirlooms.

       By treating the Baguette as a living canvas for craft and self-expression, FENDI delivered a powerful message during Milan’s busiest creative week: true design longevity isn’t about repeating the past-it’s about re-editing it for the future.
